COMET-Farm uses observed historical PRISM weather data (PRISM Climate Group 2019). Cropland, Pasture, Rangeland, and Orchard/Vineyard accounting activity executes the DayCent model to estimate soil carbon changes and direct nitrous oxide emissions/reductions as a result of management activity included. The DayCent model uses daily, observed historical precipitation and temperature data at a county scale for baseline scenarios. COMET-Farm does not predict any future climate patterns; therefore, any scenarios that include a future year will use recycled historical weather data. Where historical weather data is available, it is used; however, data for future years will recycle weather data from the previous 10 years (e.g., the year 2028 will use weather data from 2018, etc).
