COMET-Farm and COMET-Planner are NOT life cycle analysis tools and are only designed for conservation scenario analysis within the farm-gate. COMET-Farm provides a farm-to-field level analysis, while COMET-Planner provides a GHG emission benefit at a regional scale, though still within the farm-gate.
Any up or downstream emissions are NOT accounted for in the COMET-Tools. These include, but are not limited to emissions associated with:
- liming production
- fertilizer production
- transportation of goods to or from an operation
- manure emissions when users select "removed offsite" for manure treatment
- fuel used for machinery (though COMET-Energy, a separate COMET-Tool is available for fuel related emissions reductions)
