COMET-Farm allows users to define a field/parcel in Cropland and Forestry accounting by:

  • Polygon- user creates a shape through line segments that eventually connect

 

  • Point- user selects the center of their field and "drops the point/pin" and then enters the acreage of the field. (Example-  top image, upper field).
    • COMET-Farm will assume the point dropped will be the center of a circular field. The two parcels in the image below both represent 24 acres.
    • How to not add parcel by point: in image below, the field on the left is 38 acres. The entire field on the right is ~38 acres. The points added on the right are each 38 acres. Even if the management varies between each point, COMET assumes each point is the center of a 38 acre circular field... with these points so close together, those circular field boundaries would be overlapping.
  • Circle- user selects the center point of the field, drags their cursor out (radius) until the circle matches the size of their field (Example- top image, lower field)
