If you want to just run a baseline scenario, it is important to understand what COMET-Farm reports.

The baseline reported on the user interface (UI) report provides the average annual tonnes CO2e emissions assuming that the management of the last ten years of the baseline was continued into the future (i.e. if a baseline period is the default 2000-2021, then the management for 2012 would be copied to 2022, 2013 to 2023, etc.). The scenario reflects the emissions associated with the management changes added to the scenario. For a more detailed breakdown of the cropland report, please review the help document attached by following the small square with an arrow under the title.

There is also an option of "Cropland Export Files" at the bottom of the report page.

  • Download Crop Report Averages will download an excel file version of the baseline and scenario emissions columns of the tabular report. At this time (Spring 2023), it will not provide the change in emissions of each scenario compared to the baseline.
  • Export Annual Outputs in Columns will download a detailed excel file of the annual outputs and the management added for each year, crop, scenario, and field. For each field, there will be at least three sections: a current baseline, a future baseline, and a future scenario (name dependent on what you named the scenario).
    • The time frame (column A) will either be current or future
      • Current-  management entered in the initial baseline scenario or step 3 of the cropland accounting activity. This is not reported on the UI report.
      • Future- any scenario management added in step 4 of the cropland accounting activity AND a baseline future. A Baseline Future is the last 10 years of management from the entered baseline, copied/continued to the scenario time period (i.e. if a baseline period is the default 2000-2021, then the management for 2012 would be copied to 2022, 2013 to 2023, etc.). This is reported on the UI report.

At this time (Spring 2023), COMET-Farm requires all cropland, pasture, range, orchard/vineyard projects to have a scenario. If you are looking to asses JUST the baseline/current/business as usual emissions associated with a field, then you could make a copy of the baseline as a scenario and make no changes, and download the Export Annual Outputs in Columns file from the report page. The baseline/current/business as usual emissions will be reported in the current baseline section of that report.
