Per USDA privacy guidelines, the COMET Team does not know who is using the tools unless that user/organization contacts the team and share how they are using the tools. Below are a small subset of groups that have shared how they have used or are using the COMET-Tools. Be sure to click on each group to learn more about them!
- The Carbon Cycle Institute, who are pioneers in the carbon farming world, have partnered with Fibershed (based in California), Mad Agriculture (Colorado), Quivira Coalition (New Mexico), and Wisconsin Land & Water to use COMET-Planner as an integral part of the Carbon Farm Planning process.
- Shelburne Farms in Vermont and Royal Dairy in Washington are examples of curious and ambitious producers who have sought to thoroughly assess their own management practices and discover other potential strategies to increase carbon storage or reduce on-farm emissions.
- The Washington State Conservation Commission began a grant program known as Sustainable Farms & Fields that requires applicants to submit potential practice estimates for evaluation for producer funding.
- American Farmland Trust has integrated the COMET-Tools into their Soil Health Case Studies to estimate the greenhouse gas reduction benefits associated with the adoption of soil health practices.
- Because the COMET-Tools were developed through a cooperative agreement between CSU and the USDA, several programs require the use of the COMET-Tools where applicable, most notably the Partnerships for Climate-Smart Commodities grant program.
- Since publishing the COMET-Planner dataset for public consumption, the data has been used to inform several other tools, such as the Washington Climate Smart Estimator (WaCSE), Iowa State University's Net Returns to Carbon Farming tool, and Field to Market’s Fieldprint Calculator.
